Members newsletters are accessed by clicking on the month and year date to read that months newsletter. April 2004 We had a very successful and well attended General Assembly at Singleton last weekend. Core Polices were debated and adopted for AusEtax and a whole series of critical issues for Australians future. These will be on the web site in a few days. In nearly ALL CASES the core Policies were unanimously adopted by postal votes and the votes of those present, so we have a solid consensus for these now. All present were amazed at the nearly unanimous vote for these Policies. We have hit a heartland of support with them. We all should be proud that these have been democratically formulated and adopted and I thank all those nearly 100 members (and even a few non members) who have contributed the ideas. See them at www.thegreataustralians.com.au. I ask all members to study them and promote them. It is vital that we are all committed to them.Core Policies can be changed or adopted in the future at General Assemblies, so if anyone ever wants to put forward alterations or additions, please feel free to do so. Thanks to Branch President Les Shilton and his devoted band of Great Australians for their efforts and professionalism in running the event. Thanks to Joyce Shilton and Mavis Saxby for the magnificent spread laid out for all delegates on Saturday night at the Shiltons house. On the day after the Assembly it was 25 April - Anzac Day. As my wife Anne and I stood under the stars at dawn in Singleton it was a good time to reflect on the trials of those who fought to make this the great country it is and the job we have ahead of us all to win it back. We now have a solid constitutional and administrative platform for our party. Pretty boring stuff really but absolutely essential to success. We now have democratically adopted our Core Policies. The next mission is to recruit members, appoint the Convenors, set up the Branches and recruit, appoint and train the Candidates. There is a screaming urgency to do this. I need your help to achieve it. Once again, I ask you to put up your hand. Convenors needed urgently. One of the resolutions carried was to change our name from "The Great Australians" to "Great Australians". The Code which the Australian Electoral Commission has allocated for us is "GA", and this when compared with the name 'The Great Australians" would undoubtedly have caused confusion on how to vote cards in the future. Now the name is the same as the Code, which will alleviate this problem. We can now be listed in all directories (telephone books, Yellow pages, internet search engines etc) under "G" not "T" thus making us easier to locate. Shortly we will change the domain name of our web site to www.greataustralians.org to reflect the new name and the fact we are not a business. ".orgs" are for organisations like ours and ".coms" are for businesses. It is also a lot easier to type!! We are looking for a Federal Treasurer if there are any volunteers. You could live anywhere as long as you have email access and a phone. It is now essential that I get about and promote our message. If you can help organise for me to speak at any function in your town or on talk back radio I will make every effort to get there or be available. Just give me a call.
